P&G Suppliers, Agencies & External Business Partners:
In the interest of keeping you, our valued external business partners, informed and engaged in P&G’s business activities, this update provides you with the latest information on our Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
· We currently have 1 million packets of our PUR Purifier of Water product in Haiti, and we are working with our partners to ship another 4 million packets in the coming days. This will bring our total product in country to approximately 5 million packets. We expect our total PUR sachet donation to be approximately 6 million, enough product to treat 60 million liters of water.
· Other P&G product donations are starting to move as well. We’ve been working closely with our partners to ensure they need the product and will be able to distribute any product we donate to people in Haiti. First shipments from P&G warehouses have started. To date, we have shipped small quantities of shampoo, detergents, diapers, wipes, paper towels, and toilet tissue. Several large donations of diapers, wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and batteries are in the works, and we expect these to ship by early next week.
· Dr. Greg Allgood – who leads our Children’s Safe Drinking Water program, was in Port-au-Prince this weekend at the request of several relief agencies. He attended meetings of the “water and sanitation cluster” team and is helping to ensure safe drinking water is provided to as many people as possible. He has posted a blog about his first few hours on the ground (http://childrensafedrinkingwater.typepad.com/pgsafewater/) that I think you’ll find interesting. In addition to Greg’s blog, you can follow his progress on Twitter (http://twitter.com/DrGregAllgood).
· P&G employees and retirees are making donations in support of earthquake victims. Donations are being collected through 31 March 2010 and will collectively be matched with a lump sum of up to $250,000 by The P&G Fund. P&G employees and retirees from around the world have been steadily contributing to this fund since it was made available.
· Including the above match, The P&G Fund and Children’s Safe Drinking Water Fund are providing cash donations totaling $650,000 to several disaster relief groups. This will be used for the highest priority needs, including safe drinking water and general relief efforts. Our product donations are expected to increase P&G’s commitment to well over $1 million.
I will continue to keep you updated on this important work. P&G’s Purpose is never more evident nor more inspiring than in times of disaster and great need. P&G people worldwide are engaged in our response and are proud of the role our Company plays in tragic situations like this.
Thanks.
